This is very important to me. I never could quite figure out how my competitors manage to keep their sites on page 1 of the major search engines. This is absolutely ideal for your site and for you business. I would absolutely love to see a tutorial which explains best practices for keywords, metatags and any other tricks that will move your site higher up on the list.

How to back up sites & projects

Just wondered about some suggestions for 'best practice' for how to back up an EW site or indeed parts thereof.... Before you ask: I DID check out the EW help and couldn't see anything....... Surely something so important should be 'in your face', as we say in the UK.

I found this concept particularly important when doing modifications to e.g. a project being changed on the fly.... I can't tell you how many times things were changed without me having a clear idea why... and potentially messing things up in a big way e.g. master.lwt, or styles etc. So best to back it up before any modifications seems to be a sensible approach....

It might also of great value (a) as a learning tool - watching how the site has evolved ("Heck, did it really look like that !! What was I thinking !!?) and (b) for audit-like recovery of potentially missing files or code that might have been lost in incremental changes.

(Yes, I know that once it is published the ISP/Host has a copy on line, but it seemed to me it made sense to have something off site and safely 'put away'.)

A little bit of research showed the File/Export/Personal Web Package - I wondered if that might be one way of going ahead ?

Up to now, I have used good old winzip which I guess does the trick.

I may be in a minority here, but I'd like to suggest a quick video on why its important and suggestions as to how to carry out a EW site backup.

Hello everyone, and i agree with everyone here that your tuts are the best i've found on the web. i am making my very first web site on my own and learning css and html from reading and tuts. i know some basic html, i'm great with designing my graphics and layers, and not affraid to stick with this and keep learning code. that said. i'm confused on what codes to use for pop-out menus. i know that maybe i'm taking on more then i should, but i know how i want my site to work. lists i've learned now, ul and ol's. but to make them slide out to the right when you hover on an item on your left column vertical nav menu is not sinking in my head for some reason. i just can't understand what's missing. the code and styles i've used makes the list pop out but kind of eratically. i thought, or think, it has to do with position and/or float and/or index, oooooorr bahaviors. i'm just not sure:ermm:. but what i try doesn't seem to work.

is there a possibility of a video tut coming real soon showing how to do this? you guys are soooo great in your videos. and i learn so much. though i'm still mixed up about which to use first or all together - css style template or master dynamic template or both.

i understand what the dynamic temp. does, and that i want to use that for my site. but i think what i'm mixed up about is when would you only use a css template? maybe you guys can explain that to me.

i hope i'm not coming off as really dumb, i'm trying so hard to learn this on my own. and going to ready made templates isn't for me, i like designing immensely, especially graphics. and i want to accomplish this so badly, but i'm stuck. everything i know i've learned on my own through tuts and forums from wonderful people like you guys. and i wouldn't ask for help if i could figure it out, but three weeks of trying to find the answer is driving me crazy lol.:crazy:

I stumbled across your site using Google and found some great tips in your training videos. Now that the rest of the Expression Studio is out, will you be adding more videos?

I am also a bit curious why you created this site. It's very helpful, yet you charge nothing and have no advertising. How do you pay for the hosting?

Overview needed

I am a rank beginner and want to learn the Expression Suite well enough I can use the WWW as a medium of expression. I understand the concepts of coding and understand if I memorize the tools in Expression Web it will allow me to do a lot of web page development without coding it line by line. One of my weaknesses is using images. I have an assortment of photographs and graphics I would like to use but when I am working on a page and want to use an image, I am unclear about whether I can do it all in Expression Web or need to go into Expression Design and resize and reshape the picture first. Where can I find a good set of instructions for image use? I understand a huge file with too much detail is bad and needs to be made smaller but what to do first, second, etc. would be helpful. How about a check list from the camera to the web?

Video Integration In Expression Web

At this point my primary interest in the Expression suite is displaying video on my web pages. I am glad to see the tutorial on integrating Flash using Expression Web. How can I display Windows Media? I don't see any media controls in Expression Web (like I have in Dreamweaver). Will this need to be done in Expression Blend, and then imported into Web? Can I even use the XAML based code created in Blend in the pages created in Web? Or must this go through Visual Studio? Tutorials on how to achieve this integration would be greatly appreciated.

I see the fantastic demos of video with Silverlight, etc., but at this point would love to just get a simple video to play. It would be even better if my users had a choice to play Quicktime as well as Flash and WMV.

This is something I want to do, but requires more complex code then I know. I use lightbox for my images on my page. But when adding photos to a collection, the code is very repetitious, with small changes. I want to create a web page, where I can enter the code for each reference, and when I press submit, it generates the number iterations I request with the small incremental differences.

Example:

In the example, there are 44 total images. The green text, is the individual description, this would have to be changed manually, or left out. The red text, is the number which increments up to 044, and 44 of 44. So I would want to be able to input:

Using CSS for Graphic Design

I'd love to see a video tutorial from you that teaches us how to put grapic elements into play using css techniques, things like torn paper backgrounds, different shaped headers-footers etc. Like Zen Garden's Beauty of design concepts.

Integrating Themes, Skins, Master Pages with Expression Web and CSS

Are there any "best practices" you could suggest when trying to use CSS and Expression Web with what I have seen in many Visual Studio books which suggest Master Pages, Themes and Skins? I've noticed that Expression seems to fill a void in VS (ease of design). I have been trying to learn ASP.NET with VS2005 and now along comes Expression Web with graphic emphasis on CSS page design. Can you produce content on integrating the two development systems? Thanks.

Expression Graphic Designer: Teach us graphic design

I'm most interested in learning to make good looking graphics to make my websites look professional. Learn visual studio.net looks appealing and professional because of its graphics and I would like to learn graphic design. I know my way around photoshop, but there aren't enough good tutorials on how to make nice graphics (i didn't get much out of Photoshop type effects by roger pring, other websites on the internet have better tutorials, but they are not enough for me). Once I learn to make nice graphics through step by step tutorials I'll be able to make my own unique variations. I won't be interested in flash until I'm profecient in graphic design. I'm already profecient with xhtml editors and xhtml. I'm not as profecient with css, but I understand css because I learned css back in the days of html 4.1 I want to learn graphic design in either photoshop or graphic designer (its less expensive and if it works I'll use it.)
