Firefox & Internet Explorer positioning

I have been building some web pages and when I preview them the positioning of some of the layers are different in Firefox from IE.

What is a way to deal with this? I haven't seen any reference to it.

Fixing Column Headers for a Table

I have a table with a large amount of data. It's longer than the average screen.

I want to make it so that the column headings at the top of the table do not disappear when a user scrolls down.

Does anyone know how to fix the 1st row of a table to always show the column headings?

Maybe there is another technique to use such as a fixed layer?

Any help is appreciated.

First off...GREAT site. I have learned so much so far. Secondly, I want to integrate a phpbb forums page into a page of my site. How do I do that? I want to have a header, footer, and such, but want the forums to take up the entire middle of the page. Thoughts/Suggestions???

Fundamental Issue with Exports in Expression Design

When I saw the export to PSD function in expression design, I was over the moon. It meant that as I don't have a copy of Illustrator, I could finally switch my layered images between programs and use the best features of both.

So, I started out in Expression design (as the pen tool is better in here than in Photoshop) and having finished and saved my files, off I toddled to export the file as a PSD so that I could work with some of the effects a bit better. I, rather excitedly, opened the file up in Photoshop to be confronted with a great big bitmap image and not a layer in sight.

Oh well, it must have been my fault, I probably didn't tick the "preserve layers" option or something. But I had(!). So off I went again to try the export again, making sure that all the settings were correct. To absolutely no avail. It still opened up in Photoshop as flat as a pancake.

Why oh why put the feature in if it doesn't actually work? Now I'm really annoyed (after working in ED for about 3 weeks solid and really enjoying it) Bah!

Now that I have that rant off my chest, if anyone can explain why the feature's there but isn't working or has any suggestions for getting round it, I'd love to hear them.

Copy Layer Styles

Hullo,

Just wondering if there is any capability in Expression Design to copy a style from a layer and apply it to a different layer?

I want to reuse the gradient from one box in my design to another box without having to write down all the settings. I know you can do this by creating resources in Expression Blend - wondered if there was something similar in Expression Design.

Layer postioning

I'm new at expression...I learned how to center my website...I positioned layers inside of my centered layer and added images and content...when I save and review everyting seems to be fine in my browser...I sent the site to a friend who mentioned that the layers where out of whack...what am I doing wrong...is there a good tutorial that will show my how to postion layers inside a layered cell that will act is if the layers where in an absolute postion...here is the site...are any of you seeing the problem my friend is seeing?

Moving layer between layer sets in expression design

Hey there,

I have a quick question that has me a bit confused at the moment. I am trying to replicate a shape which I made within one layer (which worked fine) and am now trying to move it to sit within another layer so that it is grouped with the other elements for that particular part of the design. I have tried dragging and dropping it with no success and can't see an obvious solution via the menu, although there probably is one.

If anyone could let me know how to do this I'd be ever so grateful.

Problems with Pen tool

I'm trying to get to grips with the Expression products by working through the Microsoft 3-day course labs that they posted online. I'm struggling with the example given in "Expression Blend Training. Module 2. Part 1. Expression Design" where they give you a paintbrush image and ask you to add a handle which is a simple loop drawn with the pen tool.

The problem is that instead of the nice loop shown in the exercise (ie a black thickness 1 loop with a "hole" in the middle) as soon as I start adding more points the whole of the area between any new point and the previous point gets shaded in so by the time I'm finished I end up with a big black shaded in shape instead of the loop I wanted.

The lab instructions are as follows:

"Select the stroke brush and change it to use a solid black"

"Change the width of the stroke to 1"

"Change the Stroke Selector to use the Basic brush stroke"

"Click once at the base of the roller. Click again downward to the right side. A straight line will appear" Everything fine so far.

"Click a third time to the right of the second point, but slightly below it, then drag the click upwards to the right. Release the mouse button". This is where it all goes wrong. Instead of a nice neat straight line with a curve on the end (a bit like a walking stick with a curved handle) the curved handle ends up having a triangular area between the handle and the previous point completely shaded in.

Any ideas as to what option is causing this or is the lab exercise just wrong in showing what should happen?

Cut by Color?

In Microsoft Photodraw, there was a way to cut or erase by color. You could set the sensitivity of the tool and the hardness/softness of the tool and then click in an area that had the same or close to the same color, and it would be selected, and then you could click finish and that area would become transparent. Is there any way to do anything like this with Design?

For example, the project I'm currently working on:

The white parts are actually white, because they're imported PNG files. I want to make them transparent so I can put another image behind them:
