Please help with drop down menu problem written is CSS

Hello, I am very new to exp. web 3. I have made a drop down menu in CSS from this tutorial [url]http://expression.microsoft.com/en-us/dd279540.aspx[/url] The menu turned out great, the issue is that when viewed in multiple browsers the menu dissappears below the right column layer that will display my pages content. I tried changing the z index #. No good, i'm lost on this one thanks

Does a contact form have to be a PHP file in expression web or can it be an html file? We are planning to go live shortly and this is our main holdup. We haven't been able to get the contact form to work even though I have sent the email address to our server, etc.

ASP.net and Expression Web

I have made about 50 simple web sites in the past, and want to incorporate ASP.net too allow the following features:

1. Login to an admin area
2. Fill out text areas on a form to submit
3. Upload a few pictures via that form
4. Upon submit, the data is entered into a database
5. The data is used to generate web pages based upon a template when viewers look at the site.

Can this be done in Expression Web, or do I need to use a program such as Visual Web Developer?

How to create a link that changes an image when place mouse over

Hi,

I'm sort of new to Expression Web. I was curious if I could create something like a list of links that when the mouse hovers over each link an image on the side changes. I'd like to know if this is something a beginner like me can do or does it need advanced techniques beyond my knowledge (Javascript, etc.).

If this can be done, where can I find the tutorials for it? I've googled it but all I find are tutorials for swapping images when the mouse hovers over that same image (using Behaviors). Any direction would be greatly appreciated! :D

First of all, this forum has been a great source of education and hope as I've recently begun using expression web, so thank you everybody. I'm a first time site designer, trying to get my own site up soon, but running into a couple problems.

I've got a layer called navigation that runs through the middle of my proposed site where I have a bunch of layers containing the links to my other pages; this isn't polished yet, but looks okay in design view, but when I preview in FF and IE the links layers go all over the place, and it seems like the navigation layer isn't even being acknowledged. I've watched the tutorials a couple times now and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, can someone help with this? The code is pasted below.

Also, someone else in the forum had a question about rounding off corners, which I would like to do as well for the four exterior corners of my site. Does anyone know a good way to do this with layers or css?

I also have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing with the z-index, so if anything in the code looks strange in regards to that, please let me know.

When using the compatibility report in EW2

1. I get this "In XHTML 1.0 Transitional the tag <marquee> is not permitted". It shows up in the browser correctly and I can't understand why it won't be permitted when put on the web.

2. Also another remark is "The <div> tag was not closed before this </body> tag. It appears to be at the end of the coding above the body tag.

3. Last one: "The World Wide Web Consortium now regards the attribute "align" as outdated. Newer constructs are recommended." EW puts almost all of the code in so I don't understand why it would put a code in that is outdated.

I am a total beginner so these codes are foreign to me. Please help. I really appreciate any help you more advanced people can give.

Cannot change --WEBBOT-SELF-- in form action

When creating a new form in expression web 3, I cannot change the action from --WEBBOT-SELF-- to something else. I need to change it to FormToEmailPro in order for the form to work properly (as I already have a FormToEmailPro PHP script that I use on another website - created in Front Page, and it works great (at the same host). As it stands now, I simply get 404 error message.

Any help would be appreciated.

Grid Lines in Expression Web

I am struggling to learn expression web on my on with the help of your online tutorials. I have been researching trying to find out how to place data from excel into my html pages and have the entries have lines around them. While trying to do this I became exasperated and clicked on grid lines in the asp.net listing. It placed grid lines on everything I have in expression web including all of my other websites as well. Now, I can't get them off. Please help this beginner get her websites corrected. I truly appreciate all the help I have been getting from you. If I could find a class on EW2 locally I would be attending one already.

I am fairly new to all of this. I have designed a few websites with good success but have no experience in making a membership site which is exactly what I am tasked to do right now. I have the domain, a completed website in html and DWT format, but now I need to make these pages viewable to members only and create a way for people to sign up. How in the world do I do this in Expression Web 2?

I looked on this forum for the answers but I could not find any. Maybe I missed it. If anyone could help me it would be very appreciated. Thank you!

I can't alter doc title after applying a DWT

Hiya there

Great forum BTW i have found the tutorials excellent.

I have EW1 and for many months have been using it pretty much like I used FP2003 using table based layouts< I decided to take a bit of time out and start using Div's to organise my page, also in the tutorial I watched it recommended putting a Doc Title in so i though i would create a test site using Div's and also adding Doc Titles for the first time.

I created four div's

'masthead'
'navbar'
'page' (for page specific content)
'copyright'

I gave the following attributes to each Div

1) Relative positioning
2) 850 width
3) used the 'Box' settings to give them 'auto' width (to centre them)

I saved it as a DWT

In the 'page' div I added an editable region and left the 'doctitle' . I then added graphics to the Masthead and copyright Div's I saved my DWT and created a test page attached the DWT, but find the 'Title' greyed out in the page properties.. I'm sure i have something mixed up, just not sure..

Anyone help ?

Footer want move down as text is entered

I have followed all the instructions I can find. I have made a DWT and made my html pages from it and also I made the page-content editable only. I then enter my text but the footer won't go down as it should. I need to enter a long list in a couple of my pages and the footer sits there in the middle. I have tried everything I know to do. Before, when I made regular html pages it would move down but using the template that I need to use, it won't. Help!!!

URGENT!!! Problem in expression web!

Okay, so I used to use Front Page 2000 to build websites, which is obviously not good as it got discontinued, so I'm trying to switch over to Expression Web. However, when I wanted to create a website on expression web now, I keep getting the same problem.

There's a space between the top line of images and the bottom line of images, and there must be no space... the top and the bottom line of images must touch eachother perfectly. In front page 2000 I was able to do this easily by just changing paragraph settings, but I tried doing it in expression web but it has no effect.

How can I do it?
Those lines should touch eachother with NO spaces between the image lines.

Cross Browser Issues

This is probably my fault in the way I design my pages using Expression web. But I completely rebuilt my photography site and asked for other photographers to view it and tell me what they thought. Apparently it views right on IE and Firefox but Mac users say "just viewed on mac OSX Safari - the text is all over the place and a lot of it is illegible (text running over other areas of text)"

So this is not working out well for me because I dont know what I did wrong or how to fix it

I use layers through out all my web pages. And I manually drag them where I want them to be. And I just center them up in a main container.

Deleted file

Once you delete a file by mistake is it possible to locate this file and retrieve it? I don't find it in the recycle bin? EW is going to be extremely frustrating if you can't go back and retrieve files that you have deleted in error.

Unclickable Links and Unhighlightable Text

I used to do some web design years ago and was asked to help with website a few months back. Since I started working on it, I noticed a lot of errors and tables being used for the foundation of the layout. I decided to re-do all the pages with divs, and since i didn't have much experience with divs and css, thought i'd give Expression Web a try. I watched the tutorial videos and basically went from there.

The problem only seems to happen in Firefox. I've only tested it in 3.5.4 and IE7(probably should update it to 8). The main content of the page is not highlight-able(top to bottom) for the first three lines of the three columns. Also the link in the third column(far right column) labeled "Swine Influenza" is not click-able. From what i can deduce from my editing and restarting from scratch, something is overlapping but no matter how many changes i make, i cant seem to figure it out(edited z-indexes, etc).
I probably just did something stupid. Any help is appreciated. And sorry for the messy code, i haven't had a chance to clean it up yet.

Upload file code for files to be uploaded to me

I need to put a place in my website where people can send me a file via upload. (These would be graphic files.) I added "input file" from the forms menu in EW & it gives me the code for the box & "Browse", but how do I get the file to come to me? I see that the code says "Post" but where will it post to? Can I have it sent to my email? Does it go into a private folder on my server? If so, how do I know when a new file is uploaded? I have no idea how this works so any information in plain English (or as plain as it can be) would be appreciated.

Hyperlink problem...

I'm pretty new to Expression Web 3, just working with the trial period, but I'm going to buy it. Anyway, I created the .alink class for my hyperlink with a color of yellow and that's the way it displays in Expressions, but when I preview it in IE it is blue. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Loosing text box value between pages

I followed the tutorial at http://expression.microsoft.com/en-us/dd571513.aspx. To create a search page and a results page.

It works perfect in the tutorial. I get the right results for my database.

Then I tried to apply this same tutorial to my site (that has been created with masterpages).

Somehow the value that I type in the text box on the search page is getting lost and so the results page gives me no info or whatever is set for the default value.

What am I missing to make that value I type in the text box on the search page end up in my where clause for the results page.

Any help would be great.

Different links?

I know how to change the style for all the links, so that every time I add a link, it goes to the default setting for links that I create. I know how I can also do this for other properties of links, like hover, visited, etc. But what if I want to have two sets of links on my site, but I want one set of links to be one color and the other set to be another color? Please help.

Adding Background around my layer

How do I add a background image onto my website so it can just go around my layer (not go inside it)? I know that by going to format -> background ->browse image will get me a background, but that goes into my layers. What im trying to do though is make a background so larger monitors don't see white spots, yet doesn't clash with my initial website.

Hello.

I am completetly new to Expressions Web 3 and I'm working with the trial version. I have a page that I'm working on that has the wrapper layer with a couple of layers in it (like the tutorial) floating left and right. When I type text into the left layer the box is moving down along with the buttons I have put above it in another layer. I can't figure out what is causing it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might check?

Directing A User After Login in Expression Web 2

I have created a Login ASP.NET Control and can successfully have a person login and direct him/her to a "DestinationPageURL". However, I do not know how to direct a specific person to a specific page in Expression Web 2.

Is there a way to create a table or other means to send a person to his/her own page, i.e. Bob Smith goes to VideoBob.HTML, Tom Jones goes to VideoTom.HTML, etc.?

This is my first plee for help. I have taught myself a little bit of Expression Web, to the point of designing a website for the company I work for.

However, the website is static, and it's time to learn a few more things like inserting an image slideshow.

Can somebody please help? Any advice should be as simple as possible, as I said... "I'm self taught", and have no website design background at all!
